These steps are checked against the official help pages linked below. If a label has moved, use the official help center link in that provider section and look for the raw DNA, raw data, or genotype download path.

Your raw DNA file contains sensitive genetic information. Store it somewhere private, avoid sharing it casually, and only upload it to services whose privacy practices you trust.

Step-by-step instructions

    Sign in to your 23andMe account.

    Open the raw-data page, or use your profile menu: Resources, then Browse Raw Genotyping Data, then Download.

  3. 3

    Confirm the profile birthdate, review the important notes, check the acknowledgment box, and submit the request.

  4. 4

    Wait for the email saying your raw-data download is ready. 23andMe says this usually takes about one week and can sometimes take up to thirty days.

  5. 5

    Follow the email instructions, confirm the profile birthdate again, and download the file.

  6. 6

    Extract the downloaded zip file. Upload the text file inside; its filename usually begins with genome.

  • •The Analyze uploader accepts the extracted .txt file, not the zip archive, a screenshot, or a report PDF.

  • •If the email is delayed, check the same email address tied to the 23andMe profile.
  • •23andMe notes that raw data is informational and not for medical or diagnostic use.
  • •Keep the zip and unzipped file private because they contain genetic information.
